Jessica May, Minister of Music

Jessica May joined First Baptist as Director of Music in July, 2015.  She conducts the adult and children’s choirs as well as adult and children’s handbell ensembles.

From a young age, Jessica’s passion has always been singing.  She is a classically trained singer from Greer, South Carolina.  During her junior year of high school, Jessica was humbled by her acceptance into the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts & Humanities in voice and piano.  She decided to continue her musical studies and received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Petrie School of Music at Converse College in vocal performance and music history.  A year later, Jessica returned to Converse College to acquire her Master of Music degree in Music Education.

While in college, Mrs. May won her category in the NATS state competition.  Throughout her adult life, Mrs. May has been invited to sing as a soloist throughout the Southeast region of the United States as well as internationally.  Additionally, Mrs. May has performed in various musicals and operas.  Some to note are her roles as “Adele” in Die Fledermaus; “Barbarina” in Le Nozze de Figaro; and “Marion” in The Music Man.

For six years, she taught elementary general music to students in North and South Carolina.

Jessica and her husband, David, now reside in Weaverville with their two dogs, Zeus and Buddy, and the newest addition - a cat named Antwon.  She would like to sincerely thank the many friends and family members that have continually supported her throughout the years.
